On January 13, Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele visited CERN together with the (Vice-)Rectors, Deans, and representatives of the research teams from the Flemish universities involved in the CMS experiment (UA, UGent, and VUB). |

Following a dense schedule, the delegation met with CERN Director-General Mark Thompson, visited the LHC magnet facility and also saw the CMS detector in its experimental cavern, about 100 metres below the surface. The visit highlighted the strong involvement of Flanders in CERN, and underscored the importance of investing in fundamental research, technology, and innovation. |
