IIHE Medical Instrumentation Group

The IIHE Medical Instrumentation Group is a part of the Inter-University Institute For High Energies (IIHE) specialised in the development of new technology for medical imaging. More specific the group is involved in the development of new generation scanner based on the Positron Emmission principle applied to Tommography (PET) or Mammography (PEM)

The group conducts its research activities under the flag of the Crystal Clear Collaboration from which our director Prof. Stefaan Tavernier is the spokesperson since

The Crystal Clear Collaboration

The Crystal Clear Collaboration (CCC) was founded in 1990 with the main aim of developping scintillating materials which would be suitable for use at the LHC collider.

Since, the CCC has enlarged its activities to the development of medical instrumantation based on scintillator material. From this effort, 2 main projects have emerged: the ClearPET and ClearPEM projects, aiming at building a PET scanner optimised for small animals and a PET scanner optimised for mammography, respectively.
